PRESS RELEASES
1 Sept 2006 BIRNS connectors on ROV studying hot volcanic plumes at 1000M depth off the Azzore Islands.
In late August 2006 an important and integrated in-situ chemical and biological monitoring study near vulcanic hot plumes under - 1.000 m depth at 450 km south-west of Azzorre Islands, was completed under the Exocet-D EC funded research project, leaded by Ifremer and Alfred Wegener Institute of Bremen. The study involved the deployment of Systea (Italy) DPA (Deepsea Probe Analyzers) mounted on an Ifremer ROV. The Systea DPA units are outfitted with Birns MC connectors.
24 August 2006 Sigma Tec places order for new NANO series miniature connectors.
Sigma Tec, Japan, has just placed an order for the new NANO series miniature and hermaphroditic connectors. The male/female connectors are four pins, and have a tiny diameter of 10mm (approx 3/8"). The first order is for straight bulkhead and cable connectors and an additional order is to follow for right angle bulkhead connectors.
The NANO uses the same proven 5/64 size contact that is used in the MC series connectors. The 7 amp contact is small yet rugged and reliable in the most rigorous underwater conditions. Like the rest of the connector types in the Aquamate line, the NANO is also wet and underwater mateable.
15 August 2006 Zevulun receives third major order to supply connectors for USN contract for Rafael weapon station.
Zevulun Marine Systems Ltd. has just received its third major order of cable assemblies to supply RAFAEL for its new Typhoon weapons station destined for the US Navy.
The cable assemblies consist of various lengths of cable terminated with a BIRNS heavy-duty single contact 100 amp connector. There are three different versions of connector to prevent mis-mating of the cables to the system's power source.
The contract and supply of these unique connectors is expected to continue through at least 2010 when the current USN contract with United Defense and RAFAEL will be completed.
RAFAEL's Typhoon, a family of naval stabilized gun and weapon systems with exceptionally high hit probability that is remotely operated from under the deck makes it the weapon of choice for Anti-Terror/Force Protection (AT/FP) tasks. The Typhoon has been operationally proven and is the weapon of choice for several navies worldwide including most recently the Australian navy for its new Armidale-class patrol boats.
